"Why Men Hate Church" - this is an awesome book, with some ideas on how we can make church less feminine and feminizing. (Is that a word?)

David's greatest accomplishment, both as King and as a man, was to be completely devoted to God. Yes, he did amazing things as king. But he did them because he was seeking to do God's will. And when he sinned and followed his own sinful lusts, he ended up with a broken heart and spirit, and had to return to God.

So you are right...his becoming King was not the end of the story, it was a beginning. He now not only followed God for himself, but now he had the responsibility of leading an entire country in following God.

Kind of like you, Pastor! :)

I wish I knew a good, simple answer. Really there are so many things that could do it. People inviting friends, like Jessie has been doing, is great. Getting to know people in the community, and ministering is another important piece to the puzzle. I just get impatient, wanting it all to happen right now!

I think Pumpkinville illustrated part of the answer in terms of reaching out to those who need Him. I was in Minnesota at the time, but what I heard was exciting! It was simple (i.e., not resource-intensive), natural, and non-threatening. It's not the whole answer, but it brings people into the circle, and that's a start.

God is moving. I feel it strongly in my own life, and it is both exciting and frightening. It's funny how things work out; being a warrior for God became a central theme of my retreat, as well. You'd think God planned that, or something. ;)

I think church sites need a revival too.

The coolest feature is a hard question. To me the way in which churches use common features is what makes a feature cool. I have seen searchable video libraries that allow user to build playlists, interactive learning environments, features to help ingrain a Sunday message with online notes and tools to help implement the Word into your life. I guess a cool feature would depend on the mission of the church and the ability of the church to promote and maintain the feature.

A killer thing I just heard about on forwardleadership.com (http://forwardleadership.org/blog/?p=989&cpage=1#comment-3899) is the ability to allow the congregation use their mobile phones to post questions during a sermon. The questions would be answered after the sermon and I guess if there is a lot of them they would be answered online after service.

#3 is absolutely too difficult a question for me. I have seen many amazing sites. I did find these lists interesting:

http://vandelaydesign.com/blog/galleries/best-church-websites/

http://www.sermoncentral.com/articleb.asp?article=Top-100-Largest-Churches

Anyway, keep me posted on the project. I'd love to see what you come up with.

I've always believed that a mark of a great leader is NOT one who gathers people by the force of his personal charisma, or fear, or whatever...but one who builds something that lasts well beyond him or herself, and makes those around better as a result. This includes being able to bow out/move on gracefully without making it "about them." It's a mark of Christian maturity, in my opinion - recognizing that Kingdom work is bigger than any one indvidual.
